Brenda Cropper and Joseph Wilansky Among Victims in Fall River Assisted-Living Fire

On July 13, 2025, a five-alarm fire erupted at the Gabriel House assisted-living facility in Fall River, Massachusetts, resulting in the deaths of multiple residents, including Brenda Cropper and Joseph Wilansky. The blaze, which originated in a second-floor room, claimed ten lives and injured dozens of the approximately 70 residents. Brenda Cropper, aged 66, was critically injured in the fire and succumbed to her injuries on July 16, 2025, as reported by Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III. Joseph Wilansky, aged 77, was also among the deceased, identified by officials following the incident.The fire spread rapidly, complicating rescue efforts. Fall River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon described the response as "heroic," noting that first responders saved numerous lives despite the challenging conditions. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities stating it does not appear to be suspicious. The incident has drawn attention to safety standards at the facility, which was scheduled for recertification in 2025.
