Fatal Crash Involving Christopher Moreno in Swisher County

On February 12, 2025, a fatal crash occurred in Swisher County, Texas, involving Christopher Moreno. Moreno, 37, of Happy, Texas, was driving a 2005 Mercedes C240 southbound on I-27 when he lost control on black ice covering an overpass. The vehicle spun around and came to rest facing north in the southbound lane. At approximately 1:10 a.m., a semi-trailer driven by Todd McElroy, 61, was traveling southbound behind Moreno’s car. As Moreno attempted to maneuver his vehicle back to the southbound direction, McElroy’s truck crested the overpass and collided head-on with the car. Both drivers made efforts to avoid the impact but were unable to do so.

Moreno and his passenger, Quadre Brookins, 29, of Plainview, Texas, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals. A second passenger, Glennewyn Johnson, 34, of Happy, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. McElroy received treatment for minor injuries and was released at the scene.
