Janie Brown Injured in Fatal Siloam Springs Accident
On May 14, 2025, at approximately 11:34 AM, a tragic multi-vehicle accident occurred on East US-412 Highway in Siloam Springs, Benton County, Arkansas, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. According to the accident report from the Siloam Springs Police Department, a 2010 Traverse, driven by 84-year-old Peggy Patricia Nelson of Westville, Oklahoma, attempted to enter westbound US-412 Highway but failed to yield to oncoming traffic. This action caused a 2023 Freight truck, operated by 26-year-old Jose Angel Prieto of Amarillo, Texas, to swerve into the left lane in an attempt to avoid the Traverse. Despite this evasive maneuver, the Freight truck struck the driver’s side of the Traverse before continuing east in the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with a 2019 Equinox driven by 79-year-old Janie S. Brown of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. The Freight truck then exited the roadway and came to rest on the north side of US-412.
The accident claimed the life of Peggy Patricia Nelson, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her body was transported to the Benton County Coroner’s Office, and her next of kin have been notified. Three individuals sustained injuries in the collision: Evelyn Sue Nelson, 64, of Westville, Oklahoma, a passenger in the Traverse; Jose Angel Prieto, the driver of the Freight truck; and Janie S. Brown, the driver of the Equinox. All injured parties were taken to Washington County Regional Hospital for treatment. The weather at the time of the accident was clear, but heavy traffic conditions may have contributed to the severity of the incident.
