Mark Arceta of Skokie Killed in Chicago Crash Following Mag Mile Burglary on September 11, 2025

On September 11, 2025, 40-year-old Mark Arceta of Skokie, Illinois, was fatally injured in a crash in downtown Chicago. The incident occurred shortly before 5 a.m. at the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Ohio Street, following a coordinated smash-and-grab burglary at a Louis Vuitton store on the Magnificent Mile. Chicago police reported that a fleeing SUV, involved in the burglary, struck Arceta’s vehicle, resulting in a fatal collision.

Arceta was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He was en route to his final work shift at the hospital's research facility before beginning a scheduled paternity leave. His son was born the following day. Seven suspects were taken into custody, including five individuals who were inside the SUV at the time of the crash. The incident remains under investigation by Chicago Police Department detectives and the Major Accident Investigation Unit.
