Sophia Forchas Critically Injured in Minneapolis Catholic School Shooting
On the morning of August 27, 2025, a mass shooting occurred at Annunciation Catholic School in southwest Minneapolis, leaving multiple victims, including 12-year-old Sophia Forchas, critically injured. Forchas, a seventh-grade student, was attending a Mass at the adjoining Annunciation Catholic Church when the gunman opened fire. She was among 19 individuals shot β 16 of them children. Two children, aged 8 and 10, were killed.
Sophia Forchas underwent emergency surgery and remains in critical condition at Hennepin Healthcare, where her mother works as a pediatric critical care nurse. Her younger brother, present during the shooting, was physically unharmed. The investigation into the motive and circumstances of the attack remains ongoing, as the community holds vigils and prayer services for the victims and their families.
