Tragic DUI Crash Claims Life of Biker Dean 'Fish Hook' Smith in Puyallup

On May 25, 2025, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a fatal DUI crash occurred in the South Hill area of Puyallup, Washington, resulting in the death of Dean Smith, a 52-year-old motorcyclist known as "Fish Hook" within the Pierce County biker community. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 42-year-old woman, suspected of driving under the influence, recklessly crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with Smith and his wife, who were riding separate motorcycles. Smith sustained a head-on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife received minor injuries that did not necessitate hospital treatment. Following the collision, the suspect continued driving for approximately 100 yards, striking street signs and a fire hydrant, before being arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of vehicular homicide.

Dean Smith was a veteran and an advocate for veteran suicide prevention, often recognized by his American flag helmet and motorcycle decorations, which reflected his patriotism. The incident occurred as Smith and his wife were en route to dinner, shortly after leaving their residence. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
