Andrew Weems Seriously Injured in DeKalb County Crash on January 21, 2026 – SUV Allegedly Runs Stop Sign on Base Line Road

On January 21, 2026, a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Five Points Road and Base Line Road in rural DeKalb County, Illinois, resulted in serious injuries and a medical helicopter transport. According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 9 a.m. when an eastbound SUV allegedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection, striking a northbound Chevy Silverado plow truck.

Andrew Weems, 28, was operating the Silverado at the time of the collision. The impact sent both vehicles into a nearby field, where the SUV overturned multiple times. Weems sustained serious injuries and was treated by emergency responders at the scene. A passenger in his truck suffered minor injuries. The driver of the SUV, identified as a 67-year-old woman from Esmond, was trapped inside her vehicle and required extrication before being airlifted to a hospital in serious condition. Authorities cited the SUV driver for disobeying a stop sign and failing to reduce speed to avoid the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
