Bernie Russo Dies in Police Custody in Norfolk Incident

On July 1, 2025, Bernie K. Russo, a 47-year-old resident of Norfolk, St. Lawrence County, New York, died following an incident involving the New York State Police on O’Neil Road. Russo, reportedly armed with a knife during a domestic dispute, complied with troopers’ orders to drop the weapon and exited the residence, but subsequently collapsed. After being placed in handcuffs, he became unresponsive, and despite the intervention of emergency services, he was pronounced deceased at a hospital.The New York State Attorney General’s Office is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Russo’s death in custody.
