Chad Meyer Killed in Delaware County Fireworks Accident on Somerset Lake

On the evening of July 4, 2025, New York State Police responded to a fatal fireworks-related incident on Somerset Lake in the town of Hancock, Delaware County. A preliminary investigation determined that two individuals were on a pontoon boat igniting fireworks when multiple devices detonated simultaneously, resulting in a violent explosion.

Chad Meyer, age 34, of Long Eddy, New York, was pronounced deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the blast. A second male was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
