Cody Purvis Critically Injured in Dallas Drunk Driving Incident on December 31, 2025

On December 31, 2025, Cody Purvis, 35, a medical technician and father of two, sustained critical injuries while crossing Harry Hines Boulevard at Moody Street in Dallas, Texas. Purvis, accompanied by his brother Chris and a friend, was struck by a vehicle driven by an alleged intoxicated driver, Giovanni Perez, who ran a red light and collided with another car, propelling the pedestrians as much as 20 feet. Cody Purvis suffered a traumatic brain injury, a partial neck tear, multiple fractures including a fractured pelvis, and remains hospitalized at Parkland Hospital under intensive care.

Authorities reported that Perez, 30, fled the scene but was apprehended by a former law enforcement officer. Police confirmed multiple alcoholic beverages in Perez’s possession and noted that he continued to drink immediately following the collision. Charges have been filed for intoxication assault and multiple counts of collision causing serious bodily injury. Family and friends have established GoFundMe accounts to support Purvis’ ongoing recovery, which is expected to extend into February. The incident adds a tragic layer to a month already marked by the recent loss of the Purvis family patriarch.
