David Haverdink, Hamilton Fire Chief, Dies After Being Struck by Vehicle in Heath Township, Michigan, December 23, 2025
On December 23, 2025, David Haverdink, 74, Chief of the Hamilton Fire Department, was struck by a vehicle while responding to a medical incident on M-40 near 136th Avenue in Heath Township, Michigan. He was transported to University of Michigan Health West in Wyoming, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later, on December 25.
Chief Haverdink’s service spanned 51 years with the Hamilton Fire Department, including 40 years as Chief. In addition to his firefighting career, he served eight years as Sheriff of Allegan County. His tenure was marked by long-standing dedication to public safety and leadership within the community. Family and the department have requested privacy and reflection during this time of mourning.
