Death of Ruben Trevino at Grant County Jail in Grant County, Washington on November 6, 2025

Authorities in Grant County have confirmed the death of 54-year-old inmate Ruben Trevino, who was found unresponsive in a special holding cell at the Grant County Jail at approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday. Jail staff initiated life-saving measures, but Trevino was pronounced dead roughly thirty minutes later. According to the coroner’s report released Thursday, Trevino died of peritonitis caused by a perforated duodenal ulcer, and the manner of death was classified as natural.

Trevino had been in custody since October 31 following his arrest by Moses Lake Police during an investigation involving theft and trafficking of stolen property. The case remains under review by the Central Basin Investigative Team, with detectives from multiple agencies participating. Officials have acknowledged the seriousness of an in-custody death and stated that a full and impartial investigation is ongoing.
