Erasmo Gonzalez Fatally Struck by NYPD Vehicle in Queens, NY – August 23, 2025
On August 23, 2025, Erasmo Huerta Gonzalez, a 38-year-old Latino man, was fatally struck by an NYPD vehicle in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, Queens, New York. The incident occurred on United Nations Avenue South, an area typically closed to traffic, but temporarily accessible due to increased police presence for the U.S. Open. Witnesses reported that the officer driving the vehicle was distracted, engaged in conversation with another officer, and not watching the road when the front wheels of the cruiser ran over Gonzalez.
Despite bystanders’ attempts to alert the officers, they did not stop immediately. It reportedly took paramedics around 20 minutes to extricate Gonzalez from beneath the vehicle, during which his legs remained visibly pinned. He was later pronounced dead at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital. NYPD did not notify the family until four days after the incident, prompting public criticism and claims that Gonzalez’s life was treated with disregard. The New York State Attorney General’s Office has since opened an investigation, while NYPD has declined to comment on the allegations.
