According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred late on the night of October 10 along State Highway 349, where an Escalade towing a trailer was parked on the shoulder before executing an unsafe turn into the path of a southbound pickup. The pickup, driven by Garcia, struck the trailer and sustained catastrophic impact.

Authorities confirmed that Garcia died at the scene, while the driver of the Escalade was uninjured.
