On October 12, 2025, 31-year-old Jeffrey A. Bushman of Wapato, Washington, was killed in a fatal hit-and-run incident on State Route 97. According to the Washington State Patrol, the crash occurred around 8:13 a.m. near milepost 70, approximately half a mile north of Wapato city limits. Bushman was walking southbound along the highway when a southbound vehicle struck him and fled the scene.
