Josefina Villareal Killed on Roosevelt Avenue in San Antonio, Texas on December 3, 2025
On the morning of December 3, 2025, Josefina Morales Villareal, 63, was struck and killed by a pickup truck while walking home along Roosevelt Avenue just south of Loop 410 in San Antonio, Texas. According to police and the Bexar County Medical Examiner, Villareal had been returning from a nearby discount store, following a routine she carried out most days. Emergency calls were placed shortly after 8 a.m., but first responders were unable to revive her after she was run down and dragged for nearly a full block.
Investigators stated the driver was turning north onto Roosevelt from Sanco Street when he struck Villareal, claiming he did not see her. Authorities said the driver was not speeding, remained at the scene, and attempted to render aid. Preliminary findings indicate no criminal charges will be filed. The fatal crash occurred in a corridor long marked by pedestrian deaths, with memorial crosses lining the roadway. Villareal’s death has renewed concerns among residents over traffic safety and longstanding calls for reduced speeds and stronger pedestrian protections.
