Lorraine Driscoll Injured in New Bedford, Massachusetts Vehicle Homicide Crash on February 6, 2026
On February 6, 2026, a vehicle crash at the intersection of Coggeshall Street and Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford, Massachusetts, resulted in one fatality and left another woman injured. Authorities allege that a Dartmouth man operating a Toyota Tundra swerved onto the sidewalk at approximately 8:30 a.m., striking two pedestrians. The incident led to charges including motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence, and negligent operation. The arraignment was later held at the New Bedford District Court.
Lorraine Driscoll, 65, of Fairhaven, sustained injuries to her arm described as non-life-threatening. The second victim, a 70-year-old New Bedford resident, later died at Saint Luke’s Hospital after being transported from the scene. Prosecutors stated that investigators observed no ice on the roadway despite claims that road conditions caused the vehicle to veer. Law enforcement officers reported detecting the odor of alcohol, and an open container was allegedly found inside the vehicle. The defendant pleaded not guilty and was released on bail with conditions, including alcohol monitoring, a driving restriction, and a curfew. Further proceedings are scheduled in the coming weeks.
