Miguel Pineda Killed While Training for Marathon in St. George, Utah – September 6, 2025

On September 6, 2025, 26-year-old Miguel Pineda was fatally struck by a vehicle while training for the St. George Marathon. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. along state Route 18 near the Ledges overpass in St. George, Utah. According to investigators, Pineda was one of three friends completing a long-distance run when he was hit by a 2024 GMC Sierra Denali, which initially left the scene.

The driver, accompanied by three young children, claimed he believed he had struck a construction barrel due to ongoing road work and did not stop. Approximately 30 minutes later, he returned to the area, located Pineda’s body in the bushes, and called 911. CPR was attempted by both the driver and Pineda’s friends, but Pineda was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities continue to investigate the case, and no charges have been filed at this time.
