Nancy Schaffner Killed in Carbondale, Illinois Pedestrian Accident on November 17, 2025

On November 17, 2025, Nancy Heil-Schaffner, 74, of Carbondale, Illinois, died following a collision on N. Reed Station Road near Haney Road. The incident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. when Schaffner, walking along the southbound shoulder, attempted to cross the roadway and was struck by a northbound passenger vehicle driven by 30-year-old Alexis Scott of Du Quoin. Emergency responders transported Schaffner to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
