Officer Jason Jones Shot Responding to Armed Disturbance in Southgate, Michigan – June 20, 2025

On June 20, 2025, Southgate Police Officer Jason Jones was shot in the leg while responding to an armed disturbance at the Village on the Park Apartments in Southgate, Michigan. Upon arriving at the scene around 4:00 p.m., Jones and a fellow officer encountered two individuals in a verbal altercation. Without warning, a 20-year-old suspect opened fire. Officer Jones was struck and later assisted by a colleague who applied a tourniquet to control the bleeding.

The incident triggered a coordinated manhunt involving local, state, and federal law enforcement. The suspect was located several hours later, hiding beneath a bed in a nearby building, with his weapon found discarded in a wooded area. Both Officer Jones and Officer Matthew Dube, who was also injured, were treated at a local hospital and released. The suspect is expected to face formal charges.
