Patrick and Rhea Jung Involved in Fatal Crash on US Route 20 in Galena, Illinois – October 24, 2025
On the evening of October 24, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on U.S. Route 20 near Galena, Illinois, resulting in one fatality and leaving two others evaluated at the scene. According to the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the incident around 8:17 p.m. and found a Rivian driven by 42-year-old Patrick Jung of Galena blocking the roadway and a Chrysler in a nearby ditch. The Chrysler’s driver, identified as 64-year-old Aleksandr Avanesov of Benton, Wisconsin, was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Investigators determined that Avanesov was traveling westbound when he crossed the center line into eastbound traffic, striking the Jung vehicle head-on. Patrick Jung and his passenger, Rhea Jung, were evaluated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash to determine contributing factors.
