Amanda Nack Survives Fatal Moose Collision Near Chewelah, Washington

On the evening of April 28, 2025, a tragic accident occurred on Route 395, approximately four miles north of Chewelah in Stevens County, Washington. A northbound vehicle struck a moose near Kramer Road, resulting in the death of the driver, an unidentified 41-year-old man. The car was discovered on the northbound shoulder, and despite being transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, the driver was pronounced dead. The passenger, 37-year-old Amanda Nack, sustained injuries but survived the harrowing incident.

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is actively investigating the collision, noting that a second vehicle may have struck the moose after the initial impact but failed to remain at the scene. This incident marks the ninth fatality collision investigated by the WSP in the district in 2025, a stark contrast to the two fatalities reported by this time in 2024.
