Christine Schummer Involved in Injury Collision on Highway 89

On April 2, 2025, at approximately 3:36 PM, a collision occurred on Highway 89 near milepost 19 in Alaska Township, Beltrami County. The incident involved two vehicles: a 2017 Ford Escape driven by Karnica Lea Jourdain, 19, of Red Lake, MN, and a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Christine Ellen Schummer, 54, of Bemidji, MN. According to reports, the Ford Escape was traveling northbound on Highway 89 when it lost control on the snow and ice-covered road. The vehicle then entered the southbound lane and collided head-on with the Chevrolet Silverado, which was traveling southbound.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, and the airbags in both vehicles deployed. Jourdain and Schummer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Bemidji Hospital for treatment. There was no indication of alcohol involvement in the incident. The road conditions were reported as snow and ice, and emergency services, including RL Ambulance, DNR, and local police, responded to the scene.
