Christopher Cox Killed in Decatur, Illinois Pedestrian Crash Involving Sidewalk Collision

Christopher Cox, age 29, was identified by the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office as one of two pedestrians struck during a sidewalk crash in Decatur, Illinois, on the evening of August 21, 2025. According to police, the incident occurred near West Main Street and Taylor Avenue just before 10 p.m., when a red Pontiac traveling westbound crossed into the opposing lane, mounted the south sidewalk, and struck both victims.

Cox, a resident of Decatur, succumbed to multiple blunt force injuries on Saturday, August 23. The driver of the vehicle, a 36-year-old male, was taken into custody and is facing charges including involuntary manslaughter and reckless homicide. Local law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
