Darrell Sweeny Injured in Bucket Truck Accident in Gardner, MA

On June 23, 2025, Darrell Sweeny, an electrical inspector, sustained serious injuries following an accident involving a bucket truck in Gardner, Massachusetts. While repairing a flashing light at an intersection on Temple Street, a passing truck collided with the bucket truck, resulting in the failure of Sweeny’s safety harness. This caused him to fall from the bucket, leading to multiple broken bones and significant pain. Gardner Mayor Michael Nicholson confirmed the incident and expressed gratitude to the first responders and medical staff for their prompt and skilled assistance.

Mayor Nicholson visited Sweeny in the hospital and reported that despite being in considerable pain, Sweeny is expected to survive his injuries. The City of Gardner has pledged its support to Sweeny, his family, and his colleagues during this challenging time. An 18-wheeler truck was observed at the scene with debris on its roof, though it remains unclear if the driver will face charges.
