Edmond Police Officer Stabbed During Traffic Stop; Suspect Arrested
On Thursday, April 24, 2025, a violent incident disrupted the peace in Edmond, Oklahoma, as Officer Caleb Hodam of the Edmond Police Department (EPD) was stabbed during a routine traffic stop. The attack took place at approximately 3:00 p.m. in the Goodwill parking lot at 15th and Broadway, a busy commercial area. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Ocean Hudson, allegedly approached Officer Hodam—unrelated to the traffic stop—pepper-sprayed him, and initiated a physical altercation. During the struggle, Hudson reportedly stabbed the officer at least twice with what is believed to be a butcher knife. Thanks to the officer’s resilience, the intervention of a Good Samaritan, and the rapid response of backup units, Hudson was apprehended and Officer Hodam was transported to OU Medical Center, where he remains in stable condition.
The EPD has charged Hudson with multiple offenses, including assault and battery on a police officer, aggravated assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, and obstruction of a police officer. He was subsequently transferred to the Oklahoma County Detention Center. EPD spokesperson Emily Ward praised the officer’s professionalism, noting, "Officer Hodam’s survival stands as a powerful testament to his exceptional training, quick thinking, and unwavering skill under pressure." The department also expressed gratitude for the community’s support, the Good Samaritan’s courageous act, and the medical staff’s care, while confirming that the driver involved in the traffic stop was unharmed and cooperated fully as a witness.
