Fatal Crash in Goldsby Claims Life of Altus Barnett, Injures Melynda Byrd

On the morning of May 3, 2025, a devastating crash occurred on Interstate 35 northbound near mile marker 104 in Goldsby, Oklahoma, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to another. The incident took place at approximately 3:48 a.m. when a Mack semi-truck, driven by 41-year-old Nicholas Sanders of Carney, collided with a passenger car operated by 56-year-old Altus Barnett of Oklahoma City. Emergency responders were swiftly dispatched to the scene to provide assistance to those involved.

Tragically, Altus Barnett sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Sanders was transported by ambulance to Norman Regional Hospital for treatment of his injuries. The passenger car contained four additional occupants: 35-year-old Melynda Byrd, who was also taken to a local hospital for medical care, and three minors—a 13-year-old male, a 12-year-old male, and an 8-year-old male—who fortunately escaped without injuries.
