Fatal Head-On Collision on Highway 97A Claims Life of Sammamish Woman

On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, a tragic head-on collision occurred on Highway 97A south of Entiat, Washington, resulting in the death of a Sammamish resident and injuries to two others. The incident took place near milepost 209, between Entiat and Olds Station, at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sylvia Harrison, 70, of Sammamish, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a passenger in a northbound Hyundai Santa Fe driven by her husband, 68-year-old Stephen L. Harrison, also of Sammamish. The collision occurred when a Subaru Forester, driven by 77-year-old Sharon I. Wilson of Cashmere, crossed the centerline of the highway and struck the Harrisons' vehicle.

Both Stephen Harrison and Sharon Wilson were injured in the crash and were transported by ambulance to Confluence Health Hospital in Wenatchee for treatment. The accident led to the closure of Highway 97A for over three hours as police and rescue teams responded to the scene. The Washington State Patrol is currently investigating the precise cause of the crash, with initial reports indicating that Wilson’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic moments before the collision.
