Fatal Head-On Crash in Brown County Claims Lives of Edward and Richard Dietrich

On April 10, 2025, a devastating head-on collision occurred in Brown County, Illinois, claiming the lives of three individuals, including Edward P. Dietrich, 62, and his father, Richard W. Dietrich, 89, both residents of Quincy. The tragic incident took place just after 2 p.m. on U.S. Route 24 at the intersection of Timewell Road, approximately five miles west of Mount Sterling. Authorities from the Illinois State Police reported that a westbound Toyota Avalon, driven by Donna J. Stephenson, 78, of Timewell, collided with an eastbound Chrysler Town & Country operated by Edward Dietrich near the intersection of County Road 200 East Street. Stephenson was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Edward and Richard Dietrich were transported to area hospitals, where they later succumbed to their injuries.

The Illinois State Police have taken charge of the investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding this fatal crash. This incident serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety, leaving the Brown County community and the families of the victims in mourning.
