Fnu Reena and Hassan Lugundi Among Victims in WestFest Shooting Tragedy

On June 15, 2025, a shooting occurred at the WestFest festival in West Valley City, Utah, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. The victims were identified as Fnu Reena, 41, of West Jordan; Hassan Lugundi, 18, of West Valley City; and an 8-month-old infant whose name has been withheld due to their minor status. A 16-year-old male suspect was arrested at the scene, with authorities indicating that the attack was targeted at Hassan Lugundi, while Fnu Reena and the infant were unintended casualties. Two additional teenagers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and have been released from medical care.

The incident, which took place amid a crowd of 1,000 to 2,000 attendees, prompted an immediate response from on-site police officers, one of whom discharged their weapon but did not strike the suspect. The suspect was apprehended swiftly, and the investigation remains active, focusing on the officers' actions under the officer-involved critical incident protocol. The Salt Lake County District Attorney has yet to decide if the suspect will face adult charges. West Valley City police are providing resources for witnesses and support for the victims’ families, with further details available through official police statements.
