Hector Santiago-Cardona Killed in Motorcycle Crash in Urbana, Illinois on September 10, 2025

On the evening of September 10, 2025, a fatal traffic collision in Urbana, Illinois resulted in the death of 35-year-old Hector Santiago-Cardona of Champaign. The incident occurred at approximately 7:22 p.m. in the 2200 block of Cunningham Avenue, near the eastbound I-74 on-ramp. Santiago-Cardona was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:57 p.m.

According to Urbana Police, the crash involved a semi-truck making a left turn that failed to yield to oncoming traffic. The truck struck two motorcycles traveling northbound, fatally injuring Santiago-Cardona and causing minor injuries to the second rider. The truck driver was cited for failure to yield. The Urbana Police Department, in coordination with Illinois State Police and the Champaign County Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate the circumstances of the collision.
