Horace John Groves III Dies After Dallas Police Traffic Stop

On April 29, 2025, Horace John Groves III, a 55-year-old white male, was subjected to a traffic stop by the Dallas Police Department at the intersection of C.F. Hawn Freeway and North Jim Miller Road in Dallas, Texas. The stop, initiated at approximately 12:37 a.m., occurred after officers identified the vehicle as being linked to two felony warrants: aggravated sexual assault and burglary with intent. During the encounter, Groves reported chest pains, leading to a response from Dallas Fire-Rescue at 1:48 a.m. After being medically cleared, he was transported to the Southeast Patrol Station for an interview. Upon arrival, Groves again indicated he felt ill. Dallas Fire-Rescue was summoned once more, but he was pronounced dead at the station. The cause of death remains undetermined. The incident is under review by the Dallas Police Special Investigations Unit, the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, and the Office of Community Police Oversight.
