Investigation Launched After Inmate Ryan Rumph Found Dead in Valdosta State Prison

On March 11, 2025, Ryan Rumph, an inmate at Valdosta State Prison in Lowndes County, Georgia, was found dead in his cell. The Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) has confirmed the incident and launched an investigation through its Office of Professional Standards to examine the circumstances surrounding his death. Rumph’s body has been sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) crime lab for a thorough examination to determine the cause of death, which remains unknown at this time pending the investigation’s outcome.

Ryan Rumph was serving a 35-year sentence for aggravated assault on a peace officer and escape, charges originating from Houston County.
