On May 22, 2025, Marco Antonio Cruz Cuenca, a 41-year-old resident of Kent, Washington, lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run incident at the intersection of South 240th Street and Pacific Highway South. According to the Kent Police Department and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office, Cruz Cuenca was struck by a silver SUV while crossing the roadway outside of a crosswalk around 2:27 a.m. Emergency crews responded promptly but were unable to save him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene due to multiple blunt force injuries. The vehicle fled the area immediately after the collision, though it was later located by Des Moines Police near the 26000 block of 20th Avenue South, showing visible front-end damage. The driver, a 32-year-old Seattle man, was arrested and booked for vehicular homicide, while the three passengers—Federal Way residents aged 26, 30, and 35—cooperated with authorities.

The Kent Police Traffic Unit is actively investigating the circumstances of the crash, with the suspect vehicle impounded for further examination. Authorities have yet to determine whether intoxication contributed to the incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.
