Marlene Phillips Involved in Multi-Vehicle Collision on HWY 23 in Kandiyohi County

On April 9, 2025, at approximately 7:53 a.m., a multi-vehicle collision occurred on Highway 23 near 45th Avenue SW in Willmar Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, involving four vehicles and resulting in injuries to several individuals, including Marlene Phillips. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the incident unfolded when a 2008 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 36-year-old Sumani Dadiri Malimu of Willmar, Minnesota, attempted to pass other vehicles while traveling westbound on Highway 23. The Impala collided with a 2010 Ford Escape, operated by 65-year-old Marlene Rae Phillips of Clara City, Minnesota, and a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 34-year-old Krystal Lynn Enevoldsen of Maynard, Minnesota, both of whom were traveling eastbound. A fourth vehicle, a 2019 Buick Envision driven by 43-year-old Rebecca Maria Gregoire of Granite Falls, Minnesota, veered into the ditch but avoided a direct collision. Emergency responders, including the Willmar Fire Department, Raymond Ambulance, Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, and Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, were dispatched to the scene.

Marlene Phillips, along with Krystal Enevoldsen and Sumani Dadiri Malimu, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Centra Care Willmar for medical treatment. Rebecca Gregoire emerged from the incident uninjured. All drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, and alcohol was not a contributing factor. The Minnesota State Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, with the road conditions reported as dry at the time of the incident.
