Mattawa Woman Injured in Fatal Rollover Crash on Highway 243

On the morning of May 27, 2025, at approximately 3:47 a.m., a fatal rollover crash occurred on Highway 243 near Mattawa, Washington. A 1999 Honda Civic, driven by Sergio L. Corrales, 52, of Mattawa, veered off the southbound lane onto the right shoulder. In an attempt to correct the vehicle's path, Corrales oversteered, causing the car to roll and ultimately come to rest upside down in the northbound lane.

Neither Corrales nor his passenger, Sonia G. Corrales, 53, also of Mattawa, were wearing seatbelts at the time of the incident. Both individuals were ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Sergio Corrales was pronounced dead at the scene, while Sonia Corrales was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland for medical treatment. The vehicle sustained total damage.
