Michael Crabtree Killed in Atlanta Hit-and-Run Incident

On May 18, 2025, Michael Crabtree, a 71-year-old man, was fatally struck in a hit-and-run incident in Atlanta, Georgia. The driver, Portia Taylor, 30, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, hit-and-run resulting in death, and driving under the influence. Taylor allegedly struck Crabtree while driving a 2013 Nissan Altima at a high speed after leaving her workplace, a strip club. She fled the scene and was involved in another crash on Interstate 75 nine minutes later. Crabtree, who was in Atlanta on business, was described in his obituary as a man who "lived a life filled with love, laughter, and deep devotion to his family, friends, and faith."

The incident occurred at approximately 6:26 a.m., with Taylor’s vehicle striking Crabtree as he crossed the road, approximately 10 feet from a crosswalk. The collision was captured by a street camera and a police patrol car dash camera, according to the Atlanta Police Department. Taylor was apprehended by Cobb County police following her second crash, facing additional charges including possession of marijuana and an open container violation.
