Cleveland County Inmate Carl Kachel Dies After Medical Emergency

Cleveland County, OK - An inmate at the Cleveland County Detention Center, Carl Douglas Kachel, 53, passed away early Sunday morning, May 18, 2025, following a medical emergency, according to the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred during a routine diabetic check conducted by on-site medical staff just after 2:30 a.m., when Kachel exhibited signs of medical distress and became unresponsive. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by the staff and subsequent transportation to Norman Regional Hospital, he was pronounced dead at 3:15 a.m.

Authorities have engaged the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to assist in examining the circumstances surrounding Kachel’s death. Additionally, the State Medical Examiner has been tasked with determining the official cause of death, ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.
