Motorcyclist Jose Trevino Sr. Injured in Sterling Crash

On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 5:15 p.m., a collision occurred at the intersection of Polo and Holly Roads in rural Sterling, Illinois. According to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, a GMC vehicle driven by Alena Hammelman, 31, of Milledgeville, Illinois, was traveling northbound and stopped at the intersection. Hammelman then proceeded through the intersection, failing to yield to an eastbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle operated by Jose Trevino Sr., 76, of Dixon, Illinois.

The collision resulted in non-life-threatening injuries to Trevino, who was subsequently airlifted to a local hospital for medical attention. No injuries were reported among the occupants of the GMC. Hammelman has been cited for failure to yield at a stop sign intersection.
