Rosa Escobedo Dies in Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in Callahan County, Texas
On June 6, 2025, Rosa Soto Escobedo, a 79-year-old resident of Cisco, Texas, died in a single-vehicle crash in Callahan County. The incident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Interstate Highway 20, about 8 miles east of Baird. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Escobedo was a passenger in a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Margaret Stockman, 78, of Brownwood. The preliminary investigation indicates that Stockman failed to maintain a single lane, causing the vehicle to veer off the north side of the roadway and enter the center median. In an attempt to correct the vehicle's path, Stockman steered to the right, which resulted in the truck skidding clockwise across the roadway and overturning on the south side. Escobedo, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by Callahan County Justice of the Peace Paige Savell. Stockman, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in stable condition.
