Thomas Ritter Identified as Victim in Fatal Grain Bin Accident in Blue Mound, Illinois

Authorities in Macon County, Illinois, have confirmed the identity of the man killed in a grain bin accident on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The victim has been identified as Thomas W. Ritter, age 73, a resident of Blue Mound. Emergency responders were dispatched to the 10000 block of Pleasant View Road following reports of an individual trapped inside a grain bin.

Upon arrival, local fire personnel and a technical rescue team attempted a recovery operation. Despite their efforts, Ritter was pronounced dead at the scene. The Macon County Coroner and Sheriff's Office are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident. No further details have been released at this time.
