Tina Schoenfelder Severely Injured in Clinton County, Illinois Wrong-Way Collision

Tina Schoenfelder, 50, sustained severe injuries on the evening of August 18, 2025, when the vehicle she was riding in was struck by a wrong-way driver in Clinton County, Illinois. Schoenfelder was the passenger in a car driven by her 16-year-old son when the collision occurred. The impact was concentrated on the passenger side, trapping Schoenfelder inside as the vehicle caught fire.

Responding officers from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and Carlyle Police Department acted quickly, extracting Schoenfelder from the burning wreckage. She was transported to St. Louis University Hospital, where she underwent spinal surgery and continues to recover from a broken vertebra, cracked ribs, and multiple lacerations. The driver of the other vehicle, a 24-year-old male, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under active investigation.
