Bonita Marie Nienaber Injured in Highway 2 Collision Near Deer Lake, Minnesota on January 5, 2026

On the morning of January 5, 2026, a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 2 and County Road 11 in Deer Lake Unorganized Territory, Itasca County. The incident involved a northbound Dodge Ram pickup that failed to yield at a stop sign while crossing Highway 2 and was subsequently struck by a Chevrolet Impala traveling on the highway. The roadway was reported wet at the time of the crash.

Bonita Marie Nienaber, a 75-year-old passenger in the Chevrolet Impala and a resident of Deer River, Minnesota, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Deer River Hospital for medical treatment. The drivers of both vehicles were evaluated and reported no injuries. Emergency response was provided by Cohasset Fire and the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities indicated seat belts were in use and no alcohol involvement was reported. The incident report was finalized later that morning.
