A fatal pedestrian collision on the south campus of UMass Lowell has resulted in the death of Daniel Kennedy, a 60-year-old retired fire lieutenant from Billerica. The incident occurred on the evening of February 5, 2026, at the intersection of Wilder Street and Bachelder Street in Lowell, Massachusetts. Authorities stated that Kennedy was walking north on Wilder Street when he was struck by a marked vehicle operated by the Lowell Police Department at approximately 6:23 p.m. He was transported to Lahey Hospital, where he died from his injuries on February 11.
The Middlesex County District Attorney's Office confirmed Kennedy’s identity and noted that he had reenrolled as a student after retiring from the Gloucester Fire Department as a lieutenant.
