David Allen Killed by Suspected Drunk Driver in Preston Hollow, Dallas on January 1, 2026

On January 1, 2026, David Allen, a local resident and R&B artist, was fatally struck while jogging near his Preston Hollow home in Dallas, Texas. Police reports indicate that 25-year-old Jaylon Dews, driving a 2017 silver Chevrolet Camaro while intoxicated, sideswiped another vehicle before striking Allen along Stone Canyon Road. Dews, who already faced a pending DWI from February 2025, was apprehended at the scene and remains in Dallas County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

Allen’s wife, Mardi Hunter, described the incident as catastrophic and avoidable, emphasizing the irreversible impact of Dews’ decision to operate a vehicle under the influence. The community has expressed profound grief, noting the shock and trauma experienced by neighbors who witnessed the aftermath. The case has drawn attention to the dangers of repeat offenders and intoxicated driving, particularly during high-risk holiday periods. Dews is scheduled for a court hearing in Collin County regarding his prior DWI charge, while prosecutors are pursuing intoxication manslaughter charges in connection with Allen’s death.
