Ernie Olson Killed in Guadalupe County Crash, Texas on January 1, 2026

On January 1, 2026, Ernie Olson, a 76-year-old resident of Guadalupe County, Texas, was killed in a traffic collision at the intersection of State Highway 123 and Navarro Ranch Road, north of Seguin. Preliminary reports from the Texas Department of Public Safety indicate that Olson was stopped at a red light in a 2005 Chevrolet Impala when a northbound 2003 Chevrolet truck, driven by 36-year-old Travis Walden, failed to control its speed and rear-ended Olson’s vehicle. Olson was pronounced dead at the scene, while two passengers—one with Olson and one with Walden—were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Walden was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault. Guadalupe County court records list a combined bond of $450,000. Authorities have highlighted the incident as a fatal example of impaired driving, noting that the consequences of a momentary lapse in judgment can result in permanent loss. The crash has left a lasting impact on the local community, emphasizing the risks posed by alcohol-impaired operation of vehicles.
