On November 5, 2025, Derrek Oscarson, aged 37, of Acworth, Georgia, sustained minor injuries in a vehicular accident at the intersection of YMCA Drive and Ga. 365/Cornelia Highway in Gainesville. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the collision occurred when a northbound Freightliner truck driven by Joshua Alcorn of Cumming attempted to switch lanes to pass two tractor-trailers, striking Oscarson’s GMC Sierra. Both vehicles came to rest on opposite sides of the highway, with debris from a third involved vehicle, a Honda Ridgeline, scattered nearby.
Oscarson was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The incident highlights the risks associated with lane changes, traffic signal compliance, and the critical importance of seatbelt use in mitigating injury during collisions.
