Gay Rolofson Killed in Two-Vehicle Intersection Crash in Decatur, Illinois on January 7, 2026

A fatal two-vehicle collision at a Decatur intersection claimed the life of a local man Wednesday morning, according to police. The crash occurred at approximately 11:18 a.m. at the intersection of North Water Street and East Mound Road, where a pickup truck traveling northbound entered the intersection against a red light and struck a Chevrolet Equinox that was turning left with a protected green arrow.

Gay Rolofson, 72, of Decatur, Illinois, was identified as the driver of the Chevrolet and was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision as the community confronts another fatal incident tied to an intersection violation.
