Lawrence Boyd IV Fatal Shooting in Traverse City, Michigan on November 15, 2025
Authorities in Traverse City have confirmed the death of 32-year-old Lawrence Boyd IV, a Parking Services employee whose body was discovered on East State Street on Sunday morning. His death has been formally linked to a chain of events beginning with an attempted vehicle theft on November 15, which escalated into a foot pursuit and the firing of shots at responding officers. Two suspects, ages 17 and 18, were detained following the incident, which also prompted a temporary shelter-in-place order near the Super 8 Hotel and Northwestern Michigan College.
According to police, the suspects fled after officers responded to a theft report on East Eighth Street. During the ensuing chase on Munson Avenue, one suspect fired a shot that struck an officer’s pant leg, though no law enforcement personnel were injured. The firearm was later recovered outside a local hotel room. Boyd was later found deceased in a location connected to the same criminal activity. City officials acknowledged the severity of the event, noting the ongoing investigation and the broader impact on municipal employees and the community.
