A fatal train-pedestrian collision in Mount Carmel claimed the life of a local man on the afternoon of December 27, 2025. According to the Wabash County Coroner’s Office, the incident occurred at approximately 2:46 p.m. at the railroad crossing near 3rd Street and Poplar Street, prompting a multi-agency emergency response.

Nicholas Ted Esten Lamar, 35, of Mount Carmel, was struck by a train and died from injuries sustained in the collision.
